2019 Cabernet Sauvignon

There may not be a more perfect combination of site and variety in Washington than Cabernet Sauvignon and Red Mountain. Known for producing dense, assertive and savory examples of the grape, we’ve always found something special in what happens in dense plantings of Scott Williams’ Heart of the Hill Vineyard.  One of the most sought-after sites for Cabernet in the state, it harnesses a unique combination of dense richness so characteristic of the AVA, but with a textural silkiness and fresh minerality unique to the plantings there. 

Heart of the Hill’s characteristic darkness is evident from the moment the 2019 hits the glass. At almost three years post-harvest, it’s expressive and extroverted, with oodles of black raspberries and plums, graphite/lead pencil, leather and wet stone. The palate is delightfully fresh, addictively silky. While possessing ample structure, the tannin is ultra-fine and unusually integrated, creating a lengthy, complete finish that goes on for over a minute.  Simply dazzling.
